Empowering Leaders: Coaching Minor Program

Coaching provides an avenue for individuals who enjoy teaching and mentoring. Coaches teach technical skills and strategies related to the sport and impart essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, leadership and resilience.

A minor adds credibility to your coaching credentials. It signifies that you have undergone a formal training program and have met specific standards set by a recognized coaching body. Clients and organizations often prefer working with certified coaches to measure professionalism and competence.

The coaching minor is designed to introduce students to the many principles that are applicable across all sports. It is a supplement to any major field of study and is encouraged for students seeking teacher licensure or pursuing other majors who desire a coaching position or career in an educational setting.

Coursework Description

Not only will you get “Coaching 101” (i.e., Principles of Coaching: planning, organizing, planning and directing team functions), the minor includes introductory courses in

  • functional anatomy
  • first aid, safety and CPR
  • prevention and care of injuries
  • essentials of strength training and conditioning
  • plus an internship

After you complete Bethel’s coaching curriculum, you’re eligible for certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. This requires payment of a fee included in Bethel’s Coaching program.

The coaching minor requires 19 hours of course, with 12 of the 19 hours being distinct
